About the artist

As a young child she was always drawing and creating things. This path continued as she grew older. Whether visiting a museum and being in awe of what she saw, traveling and mentally painting what she observed, or sitting at her drawing table painting, art has always been her passion and her way of expressing her feelings.

Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania she attended college at Kent State University where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts.  Afterwards  she moved to New York City  working as an artist in the textile industry. Leaving New York she relocated to Philadelphia to embark on a career as a commercial artist. She remained in the Philadelphia area for 42 years, but took a 20 year hiatus from doing any art while she raised her family.  When the opportunity came to return to her passion, she enthusiastically jumped back into it. She began using watercolors, mixed media or collage techniques to depict realistic, whimsical  or abstract works encompassing a variety of subject matter. They included landscapes, figures, animals and still lives. Marian has also designed, painted and reinvented furniture pieces using trompe l'oeil and faux techniques for the motifs. But once she discovered the luscious hues of pastels, where she found it so easy to combine her love of drawing and painting she was hooked. Using pastels, she now enjoys en plein air painting residing in sunny Sarasota, Florida or in the summer at the Jersey shore. An intriguing shape or a unique view, whether natural or manmade can be an inspiration for her next piece.

Marian’s compositions have been used in various publications as well as illustrating books. Also her paintings have been used for fund raisers for The American Cancer Society, Canine Partners for Life and for the Brandywine campus of Penn State University. She has been a member of several art organizations, participated in many juried shows, winning awards and has had solo exhibits. Her work can be found in the Philadelphia area and in private collections throughout the United States and abroad.
